Dr. Min Gee Kim, DC
Min Gee Kim graduated magna cum laude from the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic with the degree of Doctor of Chiropractic. She completed her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University.
She has always had an interest in the health sciences. As an elementary school student, she asked her parents for a human skeleton model kit from the local toy store. The minute she received the model, she began building it. The model progressed smoothly until she could not fit one of the scapulae. After looking in the encyclopedia and anatomy images, it turned out there were two left scapulae in the kit. She remembered returning to the store, waiting in line at customer service, and explaining the situation. The store manager asked her if she wanted an exchange, and she answered, “No. What if I get two right scapulae in the next kit?”
In high school, she volunteered her summers at an Alzheimer’s Day Care unit. As a teenager, assisting staff and nurses with meals and recreation, the time spent with seniors were both rewarding and fatiguing. She recalled a memory where a senior started yelling at her in another language during a meal. Min Gee did not know what to do until a staff member told her this woman was remembering her past and that in a few moments, the senior would not recall this episode occurred. The staff member’s advice turned out to be true, because after a couple of minutes, the senior was smiling and had forgotten what had happened. This incident showed Min Gee that being empathetic and kind would always be important in interactions with people.
Through her education and experiences, these events have helped shape Min Gee into the type of health provided she would like to continually strive for. She wants to provide considerate and compassionate healthcare. To her, patients are not numbers or scheduled appointments, they are all to be treated with her utmost abilities, so they can become healthier and happier.
